Hello

My name’s Tim and I am an IFMGA Mountain Guide and passionate climber and skier based in Chamonix, France. I have lived in Chamonix for the past decade where I am fortunate to have access to world-class climbing and skiing on my doorstep. As a certified IFMGA Mountain Guide, I have the privilege of being able to guide people in wild mountain terrain, both at home and further afield. Whether you enjoy mountaineering, climbing, off-piste skiing or ski-touring, the Alps has it all and it is my pleasure to be able to take you into the mountains and provide memories and experiences that will last a lifetime.

When I’m not guiding in the mountains, I’m usually climbing or skiing for myself. Over the years I have been fortunate to climb several hundred routes across the Alps and skied more than my fair share of untracked snow in wild places. However, my “to do list” of climbs and ski lines seems to grow ever larger with new “must do” ideas being dreamt up quicker than I have time to do them!

If you’re interested in seeing what I’ve been up to recently, you can find me on Instagram.

If you want to get in touch to see how I can help you realise your dream climbing or ski trip, then you can contact me here.

To give you a greater sense of who I am and my passion for the mountains, a few of my most memorable and enjoyable mountain experiences include:

  • A winter ascent of the North Face of the Dru with Luke; two days of being pushed to our limits and feeling thoroughly depleted at the end of it all but thoroughly satisfied!

  • Skiing Mont Blanc’s Brenva Spur with Joel, a stunningly aesthetic and rarely skied steep ski line on the South Face of Mont Blanc

  • An ascent of the Walker Spur on the North Face of the Grandes Jorasses with Juho, marking an incredible end to a successful summer season of alpine climbing

  • Enjoying lap after lap of perfect chest-deep snow with James off Chamonix’s Plan d’Aiguille lift on an unforgettable powder day

  • A solo single-push ascent of Mont Blanc’s Royal Traverse, an amazing 41km long ridge traverse that involves 5000m of elevation gain and is by some measures the longest route in the Alps

  • Any day climbing at Gogarth - amazing adventurous climbing straight above the sea; it’s brilliant!

  • Any day climbing on Ben Nevis - surely the best winter climbing venue in the world?

  • An attempt at a ski traverse of the Mont Blanc Massif with Joel. After over 4000m of ascent, we retreated in the face of strong winds just shy of the summit of Mont Blanc. One to try again sometime.

  • Nearly climbing République Bananière on the Aiguille de la République with John and Ben – after 24 pitches of climbing and 700m of immaculate granite, we were forced to retreat by an incoming storm just one pitch from the summit!

  • Skiing the Pissoir Couloir at sunset in perfect velvety powder

  • Climbing the West Face of the Leaning Tower in Yosemite with Joe, a gravity-defying overhanging big wall and supposedly the steepest cliff in the Americas

  • Running the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc - an incredible non-stop race around the Mont Blanc Massif covering 170km of horizontal distance and with 10,000m of vertical gain. I needed a rest day after that one!

Climbing and skiing in the mountains brings with it inherent risks and hazards. It is therefore important when considering hiring a mountain guide to be sure that they are appropriately experienced and qualified. As an IFMGA Mountain Guide, I hold the highest qualification for guiding mountaineering, off-piste skiing and ski touring that exists. The qualification is also a legal requirement for guiding these activities in the main alpine countries (France, Switzerland and Italy). IFMGA Mountain Guides are deeply experienced professionals who have been rigorously assessed over a minimum period of three years to ensure that they bring the highest standards of professionalism, safety and client care to their guests.

Besides being an IFMGA guide, I am also a proud member of the BMG (British Association of Mountain Guides). I am also a certified and experienced teacher, having previously worked as a secondary school teacher in the Lake District in the United Kingdom. I take pride in bringing this additional professional expertise in teaching and learning to my trips to ensure my guests get the most out of their time in the mountains.
